Hundreds of sexual abuse court sue have been filed against the used-to-be the proud of America organization. The pedophilia scandal of Boy Scouts leaders victimizing their member-children was made public some years ago.
The Boy Scouts of America are now a stain of shame in the face of the USA. Following the big sexual abuse scandal from the leaders of the Catholic Church in the USA, the sexual abuse scandal within the ranks of the Scouts is looking to be even bigger. Over 12,000 boy scouts, now adults, have reported having been sexually abused, when in minor age, by 7,800 organization's leaders over a period for 72 years.
It is unbelievable to hear such a dishonorable behavior, and on a large scale, from one of the organizations that mostly promoted honor as its great value. Over the course of110 years existence, boy scouts promoted themselves to understand honor and fight with honor. But, in reality, many of them only learned there dishonor and abuse.
What is the Motto of Boy Scouts of America?
The motto of Scouts is: Be Prepared!
The motto asks for Boy scouts to always be ready to do what is necessary to help others. It also means you are ready, willing, and able to do what is necessary for any situation that comes along. You are also being prepared to live a full and worthwhile life, being a physically fit, honorable citizen of strong character.
On the other side, the Eagle Scout Pledge is:
"On my honor, I will do my best, to do my duty to God. On my honor, I will do my best, to do my duty to my country."
Unfortunately, the whole thing sounds ridiculous hearing the full story. The sad reality is that thousands of Boy Scouts suffered humiliation in being forced to perform homosexual acts for their leaders' pleasure. I hope they never felt they were doing their duty to help others. I wish they never registered in the first place to become members of the Scouts.
The Bankruptcy Filing
Today, the Boy scouts of America filed a bankruptcy request at the court of Delaware state. The new chairman of Scouts declared this is a measure they are taking to create the pool of money needed to compensate all the victims abused. This way, the new management of the organization has admitted the sexual abuse scandal happened in the first place. Apart from monetary compensation, they are collaborating with other organizations to offer counseling and other kinds of medical treatment to the abused victims. With up to $10 bn in assets, the organization looks financially liable to pay the compensation for all victims.
Another issue raised with bankruptcy request is: What will happen with the hundreds of sexual abuse court cases still pending? According to bankruptcy law, those cases will never end to a courtroom. Is this something good or bad? The answer depends on the feelings of claimants. Are they looking to get some monetary compensation for their sufferings? Or, they want to see their abusers be made public in the courtroom.
I'm curious to see how the bankruptcy case will go and what will be the final settlement. Till then, the story of Boy Scouts of America will continue to be a bitter taste in the mouths of all Americans.
