Sydney was hit by a terrible weekend storm. Heavy rains, wild wind, flooding, uprooted trees, schools closed and lack of electricity.
Yesterday I was chatting with my brother, who lives in Sydney, Australia. He was telling me how sad he was to cancel all weekend plans due to bad weather. From his telling, I could not imagine what really happened there.
The storm that hit Sydney's wide-area was terrible. Meteorologist mention to be the worst storm in 22 years. Rain falls were equal to the amount of rain for 2 months (totaling 400 mm of rain). Wild Winds up to 107 km/h have caused severe problems in electricity supply. Monday floodings have made transportation very difficult and authorities called for habitants to stay at home.
Monday morning was again full of clouds, but the rains seem to have stopped. And that was good enough for many people there to continue their daily routine. Some went out for a morning run, others walked out their dogs and many others took their car to go to work. But, there were some other people who outfaced the troubled ocean and went swimming.
Apparently, like my brother did, they stayed inside during the storm and have not felt the fear of facing it straight away. Still, the situation continues to be troubled, with delayed trains, flooded roads, closed schools and more than 150,000 families without power. Fortunately, my brother's house was not in this inventory. I called him this morning and he said it is not as bad as you see in the news?! Guess what? My brother is an optimist 😊.
