This is how Royal Families solve their Scandals

"Spain's king renounces inheritance and cuts father's income over 'offshore fund" was the title of the article in The Guardian today.

The scandal became public at the time the famous "Panama Papers" financial scandal was released on media. Surprisingly, the name of King Felipe VI of Spain was part of the list of beneficiaries from 2 offshore funds (€65 million).

But, today we came to know the truth about this scandal. The guilty guy is the former king of Spain, King Juan Carlos I. He was the author and owner of both foundations, part of the Panama Papers scandal back in 2008. Six years later he abdicated and his son became his successor in the position of head of state. By default, he is the owner of the dubious funds as well.

The way the Spanish Royal Family chose to solve the scandal is by distancing from it and remove the annual payment former king used to take from the state budget. I'm talking about the income of 194,000 euros/year. 

It reminds me of the typical way noble families used to solve scandals in the past within their families. Most of the time were disobedient children who dare to mix their lives with poor people. In the end, the ultimate tool used by the family was to remove income from family and inheritance. Wasn't the same the way the British Royal Family behaved with Prince Harry's decision to resign from his royal role?

But, the Spanish Royal Family case is a bit unusual, since this time is the son who is acting 'against' his father. For us, common people, this is not a normal way things happen. But, royal families display in front of us like coming from a dream and their family solutions again are different and sound somehow weird. Reputation and wealth are very dear to them, thus those are the typical means they use to solve their family disputes. At the end of the day, they have been able to maintain their equilibrium this way and we are happy about that. No need to deeply understand why they do things in that particular way.
