Football Clubs thinking about how to mitigate the Existing Crisis

Many speculations are going on around about the football players and their staggering wages. Suddenly, the same people that admired football stars are now criticizing their special status. It is normal now to hear among Italian people the phrase:

"Where is Ronaldo to protect you from the pandemic crisis? Why is he paid so much for?"

British football stars stand in the same circumstances. In the middle of the coronavirus crisis there, football clubs are questioning the payment of their salaries for the season. And, there are several reasons for that:

1. Football clubs lose due to the interruption of every sports activity (without any set new date). The reduction of cost is one of the ways they see as a solution.
2. General public opinion puts pressure on rich football players to give their contribution to the unprecedented situation. 
3. An unfinished season means non-completion of the terms of the contract. Certainly, the British government is not even considering at all to cover the salaries of football players.        

The new proposal made public these days is the reduction by 30% of this season's salaries for all football players in the Premier League. Right now, the proposal is still under discussion between the football clubs and the Professional Footballers' Association.

I believe this is what is going to happen. I can't say if this is fair or not for the football players. But, considering the crisis situation when the whole economy is suffering, and other non-playing staff already send on obligatory leave; this is a justifiable measure. 

As I've said before, life is not going to be the same after the coronavirus pandemic crisis. I'm not sure if showbiz and sports celebrities will lose their privileged status. What I hope in fact, is to give more focus to the researchers and physicians to make living on earth more secure. Definitely, we need to be entertained and to enjoy life. But, there is no space for fun if we feel threatened for our lives.     

Today's Situation with Coronavirus Crisis

The number of infected people worldwide is reaching 1,200,000 people. Newly infected cases are growing on a daily basis, showing the outbreak of the virus. More than 64,000 people have lost their lives till now, while more than 42,000 infected people are hospitalized and in critical situations.

It sounds crazy and unrealistic, but coronavirus has made it. If it's one reason for existing was to disturb life on earth, Yes this is done. As we speak sport, entertainment, and hospitality activities are fully out of function.

"Closed", "Postponed", "Cancelled" are the words we hear and read all the time these days. And, I'm talking about very important international activities. Activities that give sense to the life of billions of people around the globe.

Life in Coronavirus Time 

Life is pretty simple right now. The focus is only on basic needs. The rest should be waiting for when the crisis will be over. Oh yeah, the $1 million question: When life is going to be normal again?

I only hear experts about this query. Many of them, the ones I call optimists, think the isolation period should last around 5 - 6 weeks. Some others speak for 4 - 6 months, and I hate hearing such a thing 😡😷. Most health experts think COVID-19 will be back in September for the Northern Hemisphere's countries.

In other words, 2020 will the a year full of uncertainties. All plans made will remain hanging on the air, waiting for the situation to turn normal. At best all 2020 plans will be modified to fit with the COVID-19 situation and its consequences.     

I believe we should remain positive and optimistic. COVID-19 pandemic crisis will come to an end soon. Each of us can give a helpful contribution by following the rules of social distancing and personal hygiene. Let's stay in our houses to break the chain of infection spread. Lack of physical contact is the best solution for reducing the longevity of the coronavirus crisis.

This is the First Country not going to Tokyo Olympic Games

The broad discussion for Tokyo Olympic Games 2020, has received a strong turn today. Canada announced last night the decision not to participate in the Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games 2020.

The decision came after a conference call meeting of the Canadian Olympic and Paralympic Committees on Sunday. A long discussion took place until the final decision was taken. The position of the Canadian Olympic Committee was as follows:

"It is unfair and unethical to force athletes to train (or at least make choice to train) in the current COVID-19 Pandemic environment".  

Apart from their decision to withdraw, the Canadian Olympic Committee and the Canadian Paralympic Committee made an appeal to International Olympic and Paralympic Committees and the World Health Organization to postpone Tokyo Olympic Games for 2021.

Tokyo Olympic Games stand among the few sports activities still on schedule to be held this year. The Japanese Prime Minister has announced before his country intends to hold the Olympic Games as scheduled. 

We shall be waiting to see who will be the winner of the duel: Coronavirus Pandemic vs. Tokyo Olympic Games 2020. I hope the Olympic Games will be held as scheduled as a strong answer to the killing virus.

Continental Football Championships to be postponed for 2021

Coronavirus hits strongly football. 2020 is the year of continental championships. But, for the first time after World War II, we shall have one full year postponement for European Championship and Coppa America. Both very well known and well-followed competitions.      

The decision for transforming EURO 2020 into EURO 2021 was announced by Alexander Ceferin, president of UEFA. He explained the reasons for such a decision:

"It is at times like these, that the football community needs to show responsibility, unity, solidarity and altruism. The health of fans, staff and players has to be our number one priority and in that spirit, Uefa tabled a range of options so that competitions can finish this season safely and I am proud of the response of my colleagues across European football.

There was a real spirit of co-operation, with everyone recognising that they had to sacrifice something in order to achieve the best result."  

The UEFA president did not forget to mention about the confusion such change brings to the tight calendar of football activities. He described it as "the biggest sacrifice" and added, "it will come forward with huge costs". New scheduled dates for EURO 2021 are 11 June - 11 July 2021.   

The South American Football Confederation (Conmebol) was in a similar standing in its announcement about the postponing of Copa America 2020 to 2021.   

Other Important Football Championships to be postponed 

Club World Cup originally planned to happen in June 2021 in China is postponed, but not specified yet the new date. 

Women European Championship planned to start on 7 July 2021 in England, postponed without a new date set yet.

The Nations League originally planned to happen during summer 2021.

European Under-21 Championship planned to be held in summer 2021. 

Football governing bodies announced that was established a special committee, which will work specifically to fix the calendar of football events. And, I must say their work is going to be quite challenging.           

I'm glad such decisions are taken and have clarified all question marks among football fans communities around the world. 

This is the way football will be coping with coronavirus crisis, apart from FIFA donation of $10M to the World Health Organisation Covid-19 Solidarity Response Fund. This comes after Christiano Ronaldo's already-made-public contribution. I'm sure more direct contributions will come from the football stars and football clubs to help with the war against the so-called 'invisible enemy'.

Christiano Ronaldo joins the War against Terrible Coronavirus

All these days I've been waiting for news about donations from big philanthropic VIP. I'm talking about the most admired people on earth, who have taken people's hearts with their talents and their charity works.

And, one striking news arrived from Italy. Christiano Ronaldo, the most beloved man of the planet has made public his contribution to the war against coronavirus. He has decided to stand next to his co-patriots in Portugal. Ronaldo has offered all his hotels in Portugal to be used for free as hospital centers for coronavirus patients.

His offer adds two new temporary hospitals to Portugal's health system: one in Lisbon and one in Funchal. Both these facilities function under his hotel brand CR7 in collaboration with Pestana Group. In addition to the facilities' usage, Christiano has offered to cover payment for all medical staff that will be working in these new COVID-19 hospitals.

I'm sure, Ronaldo's fans are very happy with this news and the trust they have on their star. Definitely, they have something to reply back to all those people who have been commenting on social media these days about why millionaire football players are not helping people with coronavirus.

Tokyo Officials challenge horrible COVID-19 with Olympic Games

Summer Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 is probably the only sportive activity that is challenging the COVID-19 pandemic. Tokyo Officials declared that they are planning to hold this activity as planned during July 2020.  

This is quite great news, considering that almost all other important sports activities are postponed for an unknown date. Football leagues and matches are postponed. Such as the Champions League, UEFA League, Nations League and all national football leagues in coronavirus affected countries. The decision for the EURO 2020 to be played in June - July 2020 is under serious considerations. In similar discussions are other European championships for indoor sports: weightlifting, etc.

Coming back to the Tokyo Summer Olimpic and Paralympic Games 2020, it is known that Japanese officials are not the ones who have the final say on the decision to hold them. It is the International Olympic Committee, which will make the final decision about these activities. But, the positive will of the hosting country is definitely a big step forward for a "Yes" decision.

Let's see if the Summer Olympic Games will be the first strong answer against the terror of Coronavirus pandemic in our lives. One thing is sure: all participants in these activities are working hard with the hop to achieve better results with their performances. And they will continue to prepare until hearing from the International Olympic Committee.

Other Sports Activities canceled or postponed

One of the first massive activities that were canceled were the marathons. The first one canceled was the Hong Kong Marathon and some other ones after it. Organizers were afraid of the high possibility of virus spread in such big people gatherings.

Worried about the Health of the Great Pelé

Pelé, the king of Brazilian football and one of the best football players of all time is reported by his family to be quite ill. At age 79, Pelé is refusing to leave the house due to his problems with movement. And this is causing him a form of depression, said his son Edinho to BBC. 

Why is Pelé having Movement Problems?

It sounds a bit strange to hear that a football player like Pelé, could suffer from movement problems. All it started some times ago when he replaced his hip due to problems with mobility. The post-intervention period was not very successful. He didn't have an adequate or ideal rehabilitation. Thus, he remained with this difficulty in moving that hamper his to get out in public. 

And I must say, he is certainly right. Whenever someone hears his name, he gets in the head the perception of a strong and very successful man. The man who did art with the football balls and had the world wonder. It is unfair for these people to break down watching their hero kneel by age and health problems.   

I prefer to remember Pelé as used to be. The king of the football field and the man who made the whole world dream. The man who never stopped being perfect in his play. The man that could raise up the hearts of millions of people in one moment. My father used to say: "There are many great football players, but none could get close to Pelé for what he did to make football a pleasant and healthy presence in people's lives."
