In the Middle of Disturbing Coronavirus News and Valentine's Day

Today is the day before Valentine's Day and very bad news arrives from China. Today is the day with more registered deaths for coronavirus, 242 infected people. But, this is not the only one bad news from there.

According to the Hubei Health Commission, the area where the 242 deaths are registered, the number of diagnosed people with coronavirus raised with 15,000 new cases. In fact, these are not newly infected cases, but newly diagnosed ones. The health authorities in China have decided to change the methodology they use to diagnose patients with coronavirus.

All that been said, such change puts in discussion all findings of the virus so far. I mean the death rate (1% - 2%), the spread rate (1 - 2.5 other people), etc. All these are crucial parameters to forecast what could be a final picture of the coronavirus storm all over the world. Especially when we hear that a vaccine for the virus could be ready for public use at least 12 months from now. Right now no one in the scientific world can say how this virus will affect the global population.

Coronavirus & Valentine's Day

Meanwhile, all that we can be sure about are the measures recommended by the WHO staff to protect ourselves from the virus. Most important are to keep high personal and places' hygiene and avoid possible ways to get the disease. And, I was laughing with myself yesterday reading somewhere that health experts are advising the population to be attentive with kisses and close contacts. It sounds very funny to say people "please do not kiss on Valentine's Day, otherwise, you get coronavirus" 😂😁.

Imagine how many Valentine's dates could be ruined by the fear of the virus. People should be careful tomorrow not to show even one little sign of flu or cough. Their Valentine's date will be over in the moment they deliver Valentine's gift 💔.

But, as we know love is the one that withstands every difficulty. So dear ladies and gentlemen, this is the case to understand if your partner really loves you. I'm calling it 'Coronavirus Test'. If they kiss you, they love you more than their life 😍.

Apart from jokes, coronavirus news is quite disturbing and I hope we soon get better news from all those brave people that are fighting day and night with the virus.

Novel Virus found in a Lake in Brazil

These days we have talked so much about viruses. More than ever before. Exactly in the middle of endless discussions about Corona-virus, some news arrives from Brazil. Scientists have documented a novel virus in January. They named it Yaravirus, as per the name of Yara, the mermaid of a local legend that leads sailors toward death. They unexpectedly came across to the virus at Lake Pampulha, an artificial lake in the Brazilian city of Belo Horizonte.

What researchers found about Yaravirus?

The new virus has left scientists 'puzzled' because it doesn't appear to be related to any other viruses in the world. 

Over 90% of Yaravirus genes have never been seen before, making it wholly unique. Out of 74 genes in total, only six of those had been recorded in literature before. The rest of the 68 genes have never been seen before, known as orphan genes. 

Yaravirus was taken from a single-celled creature called amoeba, which live in damp environments. The scientists speculate Yaravirus is the first isolated case of an unknown group of an amoebal virus.

What is important to know is that for now, Yaravirus doesn't appear to pose any threat to humans. For a start, it cannot transfer to humans - but only between amoeba. 

However, scientists are working to better understand the virus in order to specify what kind of effects it has to amoebas and other species. 

Better worry about Coronavirus

So, the only important virus you might be thinking about right now is COVID-19 (the official name of coronavirus by WHO). With a developing ability to spread very quickly from human-to-human, Hong Kong scientists believe coronavirus has the potential to reach up to 50% of the world population. Let's hope this will not be the case and that the same scientists will be able to create an effective vaccine to protect the world population.

Worried about the Health of the Great Pelé

Pelé, the king of Brazilian football and one of the best football players of all time is reported by his family to be quite ill. At age 79, Pelé is refusing to leave the house due to his problems with movement. And this is causing him a form of depression, said his son Edinho to BBC. 

Why is Pelé having Movement Problems?

It sounds a bit strange to hear that a football player like Pelé, could suffer from movement problems. All it started some times ago when he replaced his hip due to problems with mobility. The post-intervention period was not very successful. He didn't have an adequate or ideal rehabilitation. Thus, he remained with this difficulty in moving that hamper his to get out in public. 

And I must say, he is certainly right. Whenever someone hears his name, he gets in the head the perception of a strong and very successful man. The man who did art with the football balls and had the world wonder. It is unfair for these people to break down watching their hero kneel by age and health problems.   

I prefer to remember Pelé as used to be. The king of the football field and the man who made the whole world dream. The man who never stopped being perfect in his play. The man that could raise up the hearts of millions of people in one moment. My father used to say: "There are many great football players, but none could get close to Pelé for what he did to make football a pleasant and healthy presence in people's lives."

One Life lost in India by Terror of Corona-virus

Corona-virus continues to be the new terror of the world. WHO staff talked today about the in-vain rumors about the finding of the vaccine against the terrible virus. They said it might take from 12 - 18 months to have a vaccine ready for public use. And this is not good news at all. 

Meanwhile, the virus is showing to be much more active than scientists. Now we have: 

• More than 44,000 people infected in 25 countries, 

• More than 1,200 people dead from corona-virus.

And, these are only direct impacts of the virus. The economy is feeling the first signs of damage too, with the stock markets being negatively influenced. 

The Indian Farmer Story

Unfortunately, corona-virus is taking other lives as well. I mean the lives of people who have not been physically infected by the virus yet. Here is the story of a father in India, who is another victim of the virus' terror. 

DailyMail told the story of Mr. Bala Krishna, a farmer in Andhra Pradesh's Chittoor district, India. He was diagnosed by doctors with a viral fever. Still, he was so much influenced by corona-virus online videos, that he did not trust doctors' diagnose. He was convinced he had corona-virus. So, he decided to make the greatest sacrifice to protect his family from the presumed virus. He locked his family in the house and hang himself on a tree. When his family (wife and children) finally managed to get out of the house, it was too late for him. 

An incredible story that adds to what we've talked about before: online propaganda. Many people trust more online information, rather than physicians' opinion. 

The late Indian farmer is probably the first victim of corona-virus fear. Most probably, more collateral deaths will happen as well. People scared-to-death from the virus, could not wait until the virus really chooses them to be among its victims. 

Why Physicians leave Information Gaps?

More than 5 friends of mine kept repeating to me today that in online media circulate a forecast of 50 million deaths will be caused by corona-virus. But, as a professional user of online information, I would not listen to such news until I hear it from experts in the health sector. 

But, were are the physicians? Why don't they appear in the media to help people with correct information? Why do they leave such a big information gap in people's minds? I understand they need more time to be secure for their findings. But, they can avoid these kinds of collateral deaths, by just explaining loudly that only laboratory tests can diagnose corona-virus infection. It is very important to explain things to people, who find themselves scared by natural disasters (fires, floodings, storms, earthquakes) and finally by a terrible virus. Poor people need to hear experts tell what's happening and what they should do. 

A Sincere Appeal to Online Media Players    

Online media on the other side, should be more responsible and for a minute think about their readers. The "use terror of people to get clicks" strategy should be stopped in the name of Mr. Bala Krishna's death and the suffering of his family. Please stop spreading unproved news about such sensitive matters. Intentional misinformation apart a crime is a great sin pending on your souls. Let's help people get through the terror they feel right now. Corona-virus is definitely confusing everyone's lives at the point to take erratic life decisions.

Are You Sick and Poor? - Go Straight to Jail

The sad and unbelievable story happens every day in rural Coffeyville, Kansas, USA. People are going to jail for not paying medical bills there.  

CBS News has followed the case of a family down there, that due to lots of health problems over the years have ended up having a big pile of unpaid medical bills. The main and most expensive treatment was the leukemia of the son.

Suddenly, a lawyer appeared in the county with the mission to collect medical debts from the local population. Without considering the individual cases, he prepared a new law that obliged the medical debtors to appear to court every three months. They should declare to the court, under a vow, that they are too poor to pay the medical bills. In case the debtor does not appear to the court, he/she gets arrested and sent to jail.     

The man of the family followed by the journalists, ended up in jail as he had two jobs and find no time or had no permission from his bosses to appear to the court. He was very depressed while he saw himself in prison, full of delinquents of all kinds. His only fault was to have the bad luck to have health problems in the family and to live in an unfair system. Unfortunately, he is not the only one suffering from the same issue.

It is unfair to say to sick and poor people, go to jail. They are people in need and should get help, especially from the system and the state. I hope this mascarade in rural Coffeyville, Kansas will come to an end ASAP and other ways are found to solve the problem of unpaid medical bills.

"Parasite" the Movie that confounded the World

"Parasite" is the big winner of Oscars' Ceremony 2020. The South Korean movie has entered history. It is the first non-English language movie that wins the Best Picture Oscar. 

The reaction of the "Parasite" crew was very emotive and show their surprise. Probably, none of them expected to win not only the big academy award but even 3 more Oscar Statues. It was definitely their night. 

The director of "Parasite", Bong Joon-ho won the Oscar for best director. Another Oscar statue was taken for the original scenario. And the last golden statue was given o "Parasite" as Best International Movie.        

What is the Story of "Parasite"?        

The film is a vicious social satire about two families from different classes in Seoul - one who live in poverty in a semi-basement, and another rich family residing in a large home. The poor family gets infiltrated to the home of the rich family though fraud and lots of intrigues happen.

The story of "Parasite" is partly based on real-life stories and it took several years to the director Bong to concentrate and work with it. If he knew this would be the most magical work for his life, definitely he should have done it sooner 😊.   

The 92nd Oscar Ceremony has spoken in Korean. Many people in social networks disagreed with the winner of the Best Picture Award and complained about the show itself. However, Oscar Ceremony remains one of the most attractive cinematographic events each year.

Second Time Oscar Winner - Rene Zellweger is the Best Actress

Rene Zellweger won the Best Actress Oscar Prize, for the second time. She appeared on the stage of Oscar Academy with a pretty elegant look. Her hard work for more than a year to be transformed into the feet of her character, Judy Garland, was fully rewarded.

In her acceptance speech, Rene dedicated the price to Judy Garland and the values she represented to the whole world. She said:        

"Miss Garland you are certainly among the heroes who unite and define us and this is certainly for you. I am so grateful. When we celebrate our heroes, we're reminded of who we are as one people, united, and although Judy Garland did not receive this honor in our time, I'm certain this moment is an extension of her legacy that began on a film set."

The actress that never stops creating fantastic characters (I love Bridget Jones 😍), now at age 50, will surprise the world with the 'one of the most special collaborations and meaningful experiences of my life' as she called her participation at Judy.
